Tip #1 - This is NOT for fun, it is a business
If you go into betting with fun as your first priority you will lose! You need to think of sports betting as a business. Take the time to read, research, compare matchups and make smart plays. If you are serious about making money, TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!!!
Tip #2 - Don't bet with your heart
You may be a diehard Cowboys fan and want to put all the money in world for them to win the Super bowl. Or you "have a good feeling" about a certain bet. These are losing propositions. You need to take all emotion and feelings out of your sports betting. You look at professional poker players, they take emotion out of the game and grind out their winnings. Same with sports betting. This will be a grind, and can only be bet by reliable data and knowledge.
Tip #3 - Don't bet on sports you don't understand
Seems pretty simple not to bet on any sports you don't know the rules or know the teams, coaches, players etc. We don't care about the sports dead zone in the summer. Don't bet if you don't know.
Tip #4 - Make ONE bet a day
It is really easy to be overwhelmed and see many different bets you think are winners. You may want to have 20 bets out there on a single NFL Sunday. Think of it this way, you bet $20 on 5 games or $100 on 1 game, where do you think you have the best odds of making money? It is hard enough to win one bet, do you really think you are going to win all 5? Stick to one bet a day and put all the money you are willing to lose on that bet. If it wins you are done for the day as a winner. If it loses you are also DONE for the day! Move on to tomorrow.
Tip #5 - Bet the same amount every time
It doesn't matter how much you bet. You bet responsibly to your budget. However, make sure you are betting the same amount for every bet you make. Why? This is how you manage your money! If you bet $100 and lose, the next day you will bet $100 and can win to break you even. Or lose and you are only down two units. It does not make sense to bet $100 and lose and then waste a winning bet on a smaller $20 bet you made for whatever the reason.
Tip #6 - Avoid Parlays!!!!
I cant say this enough. Avoid any and all Parlays!!! A parlay is a multi-tear bet where you can bet on multiple bets on one single ticket. The draw to parlays is you can bet a little to win a lot. Again do you really think it is easy to have 5 winners in a row on one ticket? Or 6, or 7, or 8...... Parlays are a suckers bet, no matter how you try and stretch it. If you win 4 out of 5, you still lose, where if you made one of those winning bets you would be a winner for the day. There is a reason all of the sports betting companies advertise parlays on the radio and TV. They WANT you to bet parlays. More money in their pocket not yours.
